Serving Others

The Parish Council supports many organizations in the community, the county, other Episcopal organizations in California and the world. They do this in many different ways. Some of the ways are Easter Egg [lovely chocolate decorated eggs] sales and fudge sales. Others are listed below.

We have a variety of ways to help those who need help.

Parish Player's Guild offers St. Stephen's audiences dramatic fare to enjoy. The plays are made up of parishioners and friends of the church. The plays are put on at the church once a year , with proceeds from ticket sales going to a variety of outreach projects in the community.

Outreach distributions have included:
Achievement House,  AIDS Support Network,  Alliance for the Mentally Ill,  ALPHA,  CASA/Voices for Children,  Casa Solano, CDSP, Food Bank Coalition of SLO,  Friends Outside,  Goodwill Industries,  Grass RootsII,  Hospice Partners,  Literacy Council of SLO,  Parent Support Center,  Prado Day Center,  St. Mary's Retreat House,  Salvation Army-SLO,  SLO Child Development Center,  St. Steven's - Food Supplies,  Sexual Assault Recovery & Prevention Center,  School for Deacons,  UCC,  Women's Shelter of SLO

During the month of February the Parish Hall houses overflow from the Orcutt Road Shelter. The overflow consists of mostly women & children. We provide a safe comfortable night's rest.

30 Churches & private groups serve one meal each month at the Prado Road Day Center [services for the homeless] St. Stephen's serves a delicious Sloppy Joe lunch on the 4th Wed. of each month. Parishioners volunteer to cook and serve , Parish Council provides funds for the ingredients.

Grandmother's House uses the church's classroom facilities during the week to serve 35 students, ages 18 months to 5 years. They have their own Board, and staff. They provide quality childcare to members of the community
